Carnton Plantation & Downtown Franklin

Date: Thursday, November 2, 2017

Head into the Tennessee countryside, 14 miles south of Nashville, to the town of Franklin. Our first stop will be a guided tour of the Carnton Plantation, built in 1826 by one of Tennesse's founders, Randal McGavock, and years later inherited by his son, John. After the war John and his wife, Carrie, set aside nearly two acres of their property so that the remains of Southern dead who died in the battle might be properly buried. This National Historic Landmark provides a stark testament to the brutality of the Civil War and the humanity which appeared during it.

After, the journey will take you to downtown Franklin. A vibrant blend of historic preservation and modern Southern hospitality, Franklin has a 16-block district of award-winning antique shops, brick-and-mortar gift and book stores, fashion-forward boutiques, privately owned art galleries, lovingly restored homes and more.
